How to take what you know and explain it to people can sometimes be a daunting task. It’s just like when you see a professional athlete performing it seems so easy, but you may have a hard time trying to duplicate that. This is also the reason that professional athletes all have a coach or mentor. The player or participant themselves may be able to outperform their mentor; however, it’s the mentor’s responsibility to convey the technical aspects of their performance in a way that’s easy to understand.
In the online business world, it’s the same thing. In order to learn how to do something right, you need a good mentor. Even the best of the best have someone they can bounce ideas off of and trust their feedback. We are all human… we each put our pants on one leg at a time. We need to have that one person who we understand and trust to help us along.
Finding the Right Mentor for YOU
The internet is filled with successful people and those who look to provide you with an opportunity to grow your personal finances. While these people may be successful, they may not click for you. It’s important to find a mentor indeed; however, it’s more important to find a mentor that you understand, trust and believe in.
Coaches who can outline plays on a black board are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their player and motivate. – Vince Lombardi
I don’t know how familiar you are the game of ice hockey, but there was a player named Eric Lindross. He was one of the NHL elite. He was playing for the Philadelphia Flyers for a long time early in his career and had tons of problems. He was their team Captain, but because he wasn’t able to establish a good relationship with his coach, Bobby Clarke, he lost his Captain’s job and eventually left the team.
He was traded to New York and you never really heard any more problems because he was able to get along with his new team and coaching staff. He believed in them. The point here is that while Bobby Clarke is a very successful NHL coach and mentor, he just wasn’t the right fit for Eric. Even though you may be a successful internet marketing professional doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be a good mentor. Therefore, it’s important to find someone who is doing well that you can have a good relationship with.
Communicating with your Mentor
Make sure that when you are looking into a mentoring system that you are able to communicate effectively with your personal mentor or the system has a solid communication tool built into the platform. If you don’t get the answers you need in a decent time frame, then this may be detrimental to your progress and ultimately to your overall success.
Make sure you know what works for you. What I mean is, if you like phone help, then make sure the phone contact works and doesn’t take forever on hold. If you prefer communicating through an electronic help desk, then make sure your internet works good and the response time is good from the company. One great example of a company that has a great communication chat tool is hostgator. I’ve had an exceptional experience with them and for that reason, they will continue to not only get my business, but my referrals as well.
Especially when you are starting out, it’s always nice to find someone who has been there and done that. Someone with whom you share something in common with. Everyone had to start somewhere. If you can talk with a couple people before you make your decision, that will also help. One thing I will say is that you should always take action. Make it happen. This is how you will gain the experience to become successful. Always know that every opportunity has the potential of not working out, but you have to learn from these experiences and drive on.
I hope this short overview for finding a good mentor is helpful for you! Now go out there and learn how to be successful online!
